Chinatown stall famous for traditional Chwee Kueh topped with savoury preserved radish.
Bedok Chwee Kueh is a well-known hawker stall at Chinatown Complex Food Centre, specialising in the traditional Teochew snack of steamed rice cakes topped with chye poh (preserved radish). Each soft, silky kueh is freshly steamed and crowned with a fragrant, slightly sweet and savoury radish relish that has been lovingly prepared using a time-honoured recipe. The contrast between the delicate rice cake and the robust topping is what makes this humble dish so satisfying, and the stall has built a loyal following over the years for its consistent quality. Though the name references Bedok, the stall has found a lasting home in the heart of Chinatown, where it draws both neighbourhood regulars and curious visitors exploring the bustling food centre. At affordable prices, a plate of these chwee kueh makes for a delightful breakfast or snack that captures the essence of old-school Singapore hawker fare.Operating Hours

It's not a bad chwee kueh stall, but it's also not great. I wished that they'd kept their standards a fair bit more consistent across all Bedok Chwee Kueh stalls around the country. In any case, the kueh here is a fair bit too wide and big, chewy. The chai poh is a tad bit too salty, without as much umami. If you're here for local food as a tourist, this is a good representation regardless, and you should get it. Saving grace is how, for the price paid, it's considered relatively fairly priced for today's standards.

The chwee kueh itself is soft and bouncy, with a generous topping of savory-sweet chai poh that's just right. The chilli adds a nice tangy kick that balances the sweetness perfectly. …
