Heritage nasi lemak brand at Capitol Singapore, serving authentic Ponggol-style nasi lemak since 1979.
Cafe Ponggol Nasi Lemak at Capitol Singapore carries a heritage that dates back to 1979, when the original stall first opened in Ponggol. Over four decades later, the brand has become synonymous with one of Singapore's most beloved nasi lemak styles, characterised by fragrant coconut rice and an array of traditional accompaniments. The Capitol Singapore outlet brings this heritage brand to a prestigious civic district location, offering the full range of nasi lemak combinations with fried chicken, fish, otah, and egg. The signature sambal chilli, a crucial component of any nasi lemak, delivers the robust, sweet-spicy punch that loyal customers have come to expect. Cafe Ponggol has adapted to modern dining while preserving the core recipes that built its reputation over the years. The Capitol Singapore setting provides a comfortable, air-conditioned environment for enjoying a dish traditionally associated with hawker centres. The restaurant gets quite crowded during peak dinner hours. The food is served warm, and the chicken wings are crispy and fresh. The rice is soft and fluffy. I especially love the chilli. However, the tables are dirty with food crumbs left on them.

This place only sells one thing — nasi lemak, a fragrant rice dish cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaf, accompanied with hot relish, peanuts, anchovies and a playful cucumber slice. I chose my set with a drumstick chicken and sunny side up. Delicious and a popular local dish in Singapore.

This is my favourite nasi lemak (coconut rice) ever!

Ordered the prawn set and a tub of shrimp floss. The anchovies and peanuts were crunchy. The shrimp floss was spicy and not oily. Overall delicious but pricey. The two female staff were lovely — cheerful and friendly.
