Iconic chilled soya beancurd at Maxwell Food Centre, a Singapore dessert staple since 2000.
Lao Ban Soya Beancurd at Maxwell Food Centre is one of Singapore's most iconic dessert stalls, credited with popularising the chilled soya beancurd trend that swept the nation. Established around 2000, Lao Ban transformed the traditional hot tau huay into a silky, chilled version that quickly drew snaking queues and inspired numerous imitators. The beancurd is prized for its remarkably smooth, pudding-like texture and delicate soya flavour, served cold in a light syrup. Its minimalist menu and consistent quality have kept it a firm favourite at Maxwell Food Centre for over two decades. The stall is often mentioned in the same breath as Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice as a must-try at Maxwell. Lao Ban Soya Beancurd demonstrates how a single, well-executed item can capture the imagination of an entire city. For dessert lovers and curious first-timers alike, a tub of Lao Ban remains a quintessential Singapore hawker experience.

I got the soybean original (with sugar). It did not disappoint. I was actually super surprised by how good it was! Texture was the softest tofu I’ve ever tried! Absolutely recommend if you come by this place. It was refreshing for the heat too!

$2 for a portion of Soya Beancurd. Soft and smooth with infused sweetness in pudding style which is different from traditional soya bean curd where sugar syrup being added for sweetness. Depending on your preferences you may like or dislike it but can just try a value for money $2 tub for dessert on a hot day. (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)
Well Smt
Not sure if this is a franchise or not as there are many branches of Lao Ban beancurds at various foodcourts. But the taste is quite consistent. Super silky texture, with the right amount of sweetness. Great to have as a dessert.
