Iconic Singapore kaya toast and coffee chain since 1944
Ya Kun Kaya Toast is one of Singapore's most iconic heritage food brands, having served its signature kaya toast and traditional coffee since 1944. Founded by Loi Ah Koon at a modest stall in Telok Ayer, the brand has grown into a widely recognised chain while preserving the recipes and techniques that made it a national favourite. Each outlet continues to prepare kaya using the original recipe, a fragrant coconut-egg jam slow-cooked to silky perfection.\n\nThe classic Ya Kun experience centres on thin, crisp toast slathered with butter and kaya, paired with soft-boiled eggs seasoned with soy sauce and white pepper. The traditional Nanyang coffee, brewed using a sock filter with a blend of roasted coffee beans and butter, delivers a robust and aromatic cup that complements the sweet toast. The menu has expanded to include set meals, French toast, and iced beverages while keeping the core offerings intact.\n\nYa Kun holds a special place in Singapore's culinary identity, representing a breakfast tradition that spans generations. The brand's commitment to consistency and authenticity ensures that every cup of coffee and every slice of kaya toast delivers the same comforting experience that has delighted locals and visitors for over eight decades.

My order of a kaya toast set with coffee and soft-boiled eggs was satisfying, and the service was fast despite the early morning crowd. The seating area is a bit cramped, though, and given the huge crowd, I had to consume my food immediately to make way for the other waiting customers.

This is one of the best teh store I patronise by far. The shop has been relocated to accomodate more customers. Kudos to the employer that still sustain their old staff from the previous store.
